It might help to know that actually eating disorders are not really about food. Eating disorders are about using food to try and help yourself in some way, even though it may not feel like that. The traditional approach to working with Anorexia or Bulimia is to focus on increasing weight or aiming to reduce and stop frequency of purging. I work differently to that, I believe that the best way to tackle an eating disorder is to address the root causes of the eating disorder initially and then use a series of small steps to help a client change how they are using food.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help eating disorders as it uses a range of proven techniques to gently but clearly identify and respond to the actual root causes of the Anorexia or Bulimia.
I know how it feels to have an eating disorder. I also know now how it feels to be totally free of an eating disorder but at one point I could not even imagine how that might feel, how I might be.
I spent several years in my late teens and early twenties battling initially with anorexia and then subsequently bulimia. I understand how all consuming that battle can be, how frightening and exhausting it can be to not know how to even start freeing yourself from the many ways an eating disorder can control and shape your life.
Eating disorders are complex and everyone experiences their eating disorder in different ways. I know how important it is to tailor sessions to the needs of clients and prioritise working in a way and at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for them.
