New Year's resolutions don't work, try hypnotherapy which does

You may have missed it, but ‘Quitters Day’ has passed us by. ‘Quitters Day’ is the second Friday after New Year and is the day when most people give up on their new year’s resolutions. I’m not sure how robust this research is, but it feels about right to me. A couple of weeks out and change can feel too much of an uphill struggle.

Certainly, I always notice a rise in inquiries for my anxiety hypnotherapy clinic in Henley on Thames about this time of year. It’s not just the breaking of the resolutions, and that feeling of frustration and even worthlessness that can result, it is also that feeling that everything is going on in the same old way.

I often find it useful to talk about goals. And by that I don’t mean the number of times you go to the gym, I mean the bigger things, the important things. Often, I ask new clients what I call ‘the solution-focused question’. ‘How would things be different if you were living your life without your problem?’ Perhaps you can do that for yourself now. It will help you focus on what matters to you and also why it is worth sorting out those problems so you can live a happier and more fulfilled life.

For many of us though, answering this question is more difficult than it looks, getting to the stage where you can live the life you want can feel a very fraught process indeed. This is where the sort of professional help I offer comes in. The blocks, the things holding you back may have been with you for a long time, so long that you may not even be aware of them – it’s a bit like carrying a heavy weight around, after some time you don’t notice it but it still makes you uncomfortable.

If you have struggled for years with your problems, you might assume that it will take years to solve them. Not true. We understand so much more now about how our minds work, how we store memories and beliefs and how these impact on our behaviour. With this knowledge we can target problems and often make changes in just a few sessions.
